Dayswaps automatically marks public holidays according to your business's location (yellow dot in the calendar). This article describes what to do when you are closed on a holiday, when you are open, and how to correctly record employee hours.
A) You are closed on the holiday
Hover over the holiday date in the calendar.
Choose Mark as closed.
A red bar will appear in the calendar — this day is closed and the system will not automatically schedule shifts into it.
B) You are open on the holiday
Leave the scheduled shifts unchanged. The system will automatically recognise that the shift falls on a holiday and record the hours according to the rules below.
Recording hours on a holiday
The process differs depending on the employee's situation:
Employee works on the holiday
Hours worked are automatically recorded as Work on a public holiday.
Full-time employee does not work on the holiday
The employee loses the holiday supplement, but is entitled to compensatory leave or wage compensation. Enter Absence → Holiday for the duration corresponding to their planned shift. The hours will be recorded as Absence on a public holiday.
Part-time worker with no scheduled shift
If a part-time worker does not work on a given holiday without a scheduled shift, you record nothing.
Night shifts crossing midnight
If a shift starts before midnight and ends after midnight on a holiday (or vice versa), Dayswaps automatically splits the hours according to which hours fall on the holiday and which fall outside it. The calculation is based on the exact time range of the shift relative to midnight.
