How to Request Time Off

Intended for: Employee | Application: Web + Mobile Application

Want to request vacation, a doctor's appointment, or other time off? Submit the request directly in Dayswaps and your manager will approve it.

Before you start — absence vs. time preference

In Dayswaps there are two different record types:

  • Absence — you request time off during a period when you have (or will have) scheduled working hours. Examples: vacation, doctor, sick leave, care leave.

  • Time preference — you tell your manager when you can or cannot work when planning the schedule. See Submitting a time preference.

Absence request — step by step

1. In the left menu, go to My Calendar.

2. In the top right, click the + Request time off button.

3. In the Type field, select the type of absence (Vacation, Doctor, Home office, Sick leave, etc.). The options depend on your company's settings.

4. Select the date: click the first day and then the last day. If you are entering a single day, click it twice.

5. If you only need to enter part of the day: uncheck All day and fill in the from–to time.

6. Optionally add a Note or Attachment for your manager.

7. Click Request time off.

The request will appear in the calendar with the status "Request" until your manager approves or rejects it. You will receive a notification of the outcome.

Requesting cancellation of a planned shift

Have a planned shift you want to be removed from? If your employer allows this feature:

1. In the calendar, expand the relevant shift.

2. Press the I need a replacement button.

3. Write the reason and confirm.

Recurring absence

Need to enter a regular absence (e.g. every Friday)? In the request panel, check Repeat and set the frequency.
